Most jigsaw puzzles today are made out of cardboard because they are easier and cheaper to mass produce than the wooden models. Cardboard jigsaw puzzles are made by gluing an artwork print on a cardboard before cutting. The board is fed into a press where a die with a set of steel blades of desired shape will cut through it. Puzzle pieces from 25 to more than 1000 pieces can be produced. With advanced printing technology, the colour quality of the artwork print is as close to the original photography or painting from which it is reproduced from.

Older children will find cardboard jigsaw puzzles more interesting and challenging. Jigsaw puzzles can teach them a lot about concentration, persistence, strategy and visual perception.
